Expectations for TAG Testing for 2025-2026 Year:

BSD is updating its approach to assessing and identifying Talented and Gifted (TAG) students. Starting 2025-2026 school year, families can choose to have their children screened using either the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) or Naglieri General Ability Tests (NGAT). During the 2026-2027 school year, the district will transition to only using NGAT.

UNIVERSAL SCREENINGS:

We will all enrolled 3rd grade students the Naglieri General Ability Test--Nonverbal. This will happen during classtime.

We will all enrolled 4th grade students the Naglieri General Ability Test--Verbal. This will happen during classtime.

We will all enrolled 5th grade students the Naglieri General Ability Test--Quantitative. This will happen during classtime.

Since we will be universally screening 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students each year, referrals will only happen outside of those grade levels.

Teachers will still use the Kingore Observation Inventory, to record qualitative data needed as part of the identification process. Teachers look for evidence of gifted characteristics in their students.

TIMING:

The elementary schools aim to complete their testing by October.

Testing for 3rd,4th and 5th grade will occur the week of October 13th.

Makeup testing will be the week of October 27th.

CogAT Testing will be the week of October 27th.

The identification process should happen in November/December.

There will be no ITBS testing this year for any grade.

Before submitting a question on this form make sure to read all information on the TAG website.
